Pat Robison - 50 Years of Playing in the Mud
Finally Found Clay and Paulus Berensohn - February 2022
Finding the way. Sometimes it takes a while and the bravery to change course.
Pat didn’t take a ceramics class until his final undergraduate semester. It changed everything. That summer he headed to Arrowmont Arts and Craft School in Tennessee to study with Paulus Berensohn. Paulus was a dancer in New York performing with Merce Cunningham and Martha Graham before retiring from the stage and using his body to form clay sculptures. He was a strong influence and led Pat to apply to graduate school for ceramic arts at UWM. The images below include: Paulus's inscription in his book for Pat. A Paulus 'knee' pot and a small luminary inspired by the same. An imprint of the artist's knees can be see on the blue and green inside of the pot and his hands are clearly recorded on the outside.
