Materials
Large safety pin or jewelry pin back with holes for sewing/attachment
Scraps of fabric (old, new, altered, lace, anything that can be stitched into)
Ornaments: beads, charms, ceramic bits, tiny tiles, rusty things with holes
Embroidery floss or thread
Sewing supplies: Scissors, needle, pins, good light
Permanent glue stick (not essential but very useful)
Process (Flexible)
Gather and Audition - fabrics and focal point
Meaning/Purpose, Contrast, Stitchable
Cut or tear base fabric to the width of the pin
Estimate a length, remember ½” for folding over the pin
Audition layers, placement of ornaments
Determine order of attachment
How much decorative stitching and where will it be?
Secure base layers of fabric with running stitch or
Various embroidery stitches
It helps to pin the larger pieces so they don’t migrate
Attach decorations, add stitching and/or beads
(Remember the ½” that gets turned over)
Attach to pin by running stitch below pin or looping over pin
Glue on backing, if you hate glue you can sew on backing
