According to NOAA, "A Small Craft Advisory may be issued when sea or lake wind, wave or ice exists that could be hazardous to small boats. There is no precise definition of a small craft. Any vessel that may be adversely affected by Small Craft Advisory criteria should be considered a small craft. Other considerations include the experience of the vessel operator, and the type, overall size, and sea worthiness of the vessel."
Here at Two Fish we have been avoiding all of the judgement and double speak that comes with ART vs CRAFT. We consider our gallery a home for fine art, fine craft, and fair trade traditional crafts. All of these things enhance our homes, gardens, and lives and do not benefit from too much quibbling about whether or not they are truly 'art'. Sigh. As the NOAA definition (above) for small craft is quite ambiguous and circular . . . alluding to experience and worthiness, our exhibition will explore these terms and the reasons behind this mystery!
For this exhibition we are asking craftsmen and artists to share creations that they consider to be, advisedly, fine craft and to share their definitions of craft and craftsmanship.
