Summer 2026 Short-Form Classes

Two Fish Studio & School is offering two new short-form ceramics classes for the Summer of 2026.

‘Pit Fired Pottery’ and ‘Introduction to Raku’ will both be four session classes taught in the Carriage House through the garden. It will not be necessary to negotiate the steps down to the house studio.
Both firing methods produce beautiful wabi-sabi surface effects.
The pieces will be decorative but porous and not food safe.
Students will need to dress appropriately for firing days - hair coverings, closed toe shoes, long sleeves, etc. Detailed information will be provided in class.

There is a registration form for both classes following the images and descriptions.
A completed form and $50. deposit is necessary to confirm your registration.

Pit Fired Pottery

Pit fired pottery is an ancient, low-temperature method characterized by unpredictable, organic, and smoky gray, black, orange, and red matte surface patterns.
There will be 4 classes within a 10 day period.
It is necessary to attend all 4.

The first two classes are all about making coffee cup size or smaller pieces. Large pieces are very fragile and require too long to dry for this short-form class. Small vases, cups, bowls, animal sculptures, wall pockets, ornaments, small tiles or pendants for making jewelry work well. Make a bunch to test out the process.
Work from the two making sessions will be bisque fired.
The third and fourth classes will be for preparing and firing the work with sawdust, wood, copper carbonate, and salt. After firing surface treatments will also be demonstrated.

The class meets on consecutive Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-8:30pm (June 8,10,15, and 17, 2026)
$150.00 fee includes instruction and materials.
Limit 8 students.

There are 3 places open in this class.

Introduction to Raku

Raku firing is an exciting and unpredictable process that originated in Japan.
Its rapid cooling process creates dramatic metallic and crackled surfaces. The firing includes removing pottery from the kiln while it is still red hot and placing it in combustible materials for rapid reduction.
There will be 4 classes within a 10 day period. It is necessary to attend all 4.
